Scheduling Options
Send a message on the day that matters most.
Every message in WordsLater is built around a trigger - the rule that decides when it goes out. Pick a specific calendar date, schedule recurring messages, tie delivery to a future age or life event, or have your message held privately until after you've passed. Mix and match to fit any story you want to tell.
Five Ways to Schedule a Message
Choose the trigger that fits the moment.
Specific Date & Time
Pick any future date and time, down to the minute, in any time zone. The classic "letter from the past" scenario.
Example: Deliver July 4, 2035 at 9:00 AMRecurring Messages
Send the same heartfelt note every year on a birthday, anniversary, or holiday - automatically, for as long as you want.
- Yearly, monthly, or weekly
- End on a date or after N sends
Milestone & Age-Based
Tie delivery to a recipient's age or a life event. Perfect for messages written today that should arrive years from now.
Example: On her 18th birthdayCountdown / Time-From-Now
Pick a duration instead of a date - 30 days, 5 years, 50 years. Great for letters to your future self.
Example: Deliver 10 years from todayPosthumous Delivery

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change the delivery date after I've scheduled a message?
Yes. As long as the message hasn't been delivered yet, you can reschedule, edit, or delete it anytime from your dashboard.
What time zone are deliveries based on?
You pick the time zone when you schedule. We recommend setting it to the recipient's time zone so the message arrives at a natural moment for them.
What if a recipient's email or phone number changes?
You can update recipient details at any time. For long-range messages, we'll also ask you to confirm recipient info during periodic check-ins so nothing gets sent to a stale address.
Is there a maximum delivery date?
Digital messages can be scheduled up to 75 years out, on every paid plan. Physical USPS letters can be scheduled up to 30 years out. The free plan is limited to a 1-year window.
What happens if I miss a check-in?
Nothing dramatic - you'll get gentle reminders by email and SMS, and your trusted contacts will only ever be involved if you don't respond over an extended period. Read more on our Posthumous Delivery page.
Can I schedule a message to repeat every year?
Yes. Recurring birthdays, anniversaries, and yearly check-ins can repeat for up to 50 years. Each delivery counts against your message pack.
